THE SPASTICS CENTRE KANPUR has undertaken pioneering
services for rehabilitation of children with Cerebral Palsy and multiple
disabilities. This is a programme outside the scope of hospital treatment, and
fulfills a felt need of children stricken at birth by brain damage, a condition
known as Spasticity. Lacking knowledge and guidelines, parents often try and
cope with the problem on their own, and feel sad and inadequate when they see
no improvement.
During the past 14 years the Spastics Centre Kanpur has helped
scores of disabled children and their under-privileged families through
rehabilitative measures. We focus on physiotherapy, special education,
vocational training, music, parent counseling and early detection.
The Centre is the first of its kind in the state of Uttar
Pradesh to concentrate solely on the care of children with spastic and related
disabilities, chiefly locomotor handicaps. Our goal is to help such children
realize their potential and to become useful members of society.
At present we function in a few rooms by courtesy of the
District Council for Child Welfare. However a separate building of our own is
now a prime necessity to enable us to serve children in increasing numbers from
the entire district.
We appeal to well-wishers, philanthropists and funding
agencies to donate generously to our Building Fund. A building plan by a
professional architect has been prepared. (We propose to construct two stories
to begin with and later to build two more floors.) The estimated cost of our
first phase is Rs. 85,00,000 ($190,000).
Your contribution will help us in this important rehabilitation work to
help a highly neglected sector of society. No such centre exists
in any major city of Uttar Pradesh.
Thanking you in anticipation of a generous response.
